WASHINGTON — Washington National Cathedral is clearing all of the chairs out of its nave for a week of special programs using the open space.
Cathedral officials said this is the first time in recent memory that the chairs have been removed from the massive cathedral space. Officials say the open space provides a fresh look at the building and shows how cathedrals appeared without seats during medieval times.
From Jan. 13 to Jan. 17, the cathedral is presenting a week of programs under the theme, “Seeing Deeper.” It will include morning prayer services, an evening T’ai Chi exercise on Jan. 13, evening choral concerts on Jan. 15 and Jan. 17 and times for silent prayer and meditation.
The church will reinstall the seats after the week of special programs.
