ARLINGTON, Va. — Plans to expand Long Bridge Park in Arlington with a gym and aquatics facility are on hold after bids for the project came in higher than officials expected.
Arlington County Manager Barbara Donnellan said Friday the high bids were “disappointing” and said she will not take the bids to the county board. The county did not release the results of the bids.
Donnellan says staff will provide the board with options on how to proceed.
The park opened about two years ago and currently has three soccer fields and a scenic walking and jogging path. It was built on top of a former industrial site. In 2012, voters approved a bond measure to help pay for the expansion, which was expected to cost almost $80 million.
