Twins Born Minutes Apart, But in Different Years
Get Breaking News First
WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — MedStar Washington Hospital Center says a woman gave birth to twins near midnight on New Year’s, with one born in 2013 and the other born in 2014.
A hospital spokeswoman says the twins were born to Yaleni Tohalino and Warren Begazo of Silver Spring, Md. A girl, Lorraine Yaleni Begazo, was born at 11:58 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Her brother, Brandon Ferdinando Begazo, arrived at 12:01 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
Warren Begazo tells WNEW’s Amy Hybels that they think the best way to go about celebrating birthdays in the future will be to hold one big party with two separate cakes. Naturally, one cake’s candles will be blown out shortly before midnight on Dec. 31, the other’s a few minutes later on Jan. 1. And for parents only — champagne to wash down the cake and to celebrate the new year.
Relatives crowded into the hospital room Wednesday to catch of glimpse of the newborns lying side-by-side in a bassinet, wearing pink and blue knit caps.
The spokeswoman says Lorraine weighed about 6 pounds, 5 ounces; Brandon weighed 5 pounds, 10 ounces.
Tohalino is expected take the twins home Saturday.
