LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A woman left her 4-year-old inside a car in a casino parking garage for more than eight hours Tuesday, according to police.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department responded to the Maryland Live! Casino parking garage in Hanover around 6:30 p.m. for reports of an unattended child in a parked vehicle.
Police say the casino’s security personnel were on routine patrol of the parking garage when they noticed a child crying inside a parked vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the car arrived at approximately 10 a.m. Afterwards, a woman exited the vehicle and entered the casino.
The child was transported to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center for an examination.
The mother, 24-year-old Alicia Denice Brown of Baltimore, returned to the scene immediately before the child was taken to the hospital. She was arrested and charged with second degree child abuse, confined unattended child under 8 years old, and neglect of a minor.
The child was cold and hungry but otherwise found to be in good health and showed no other signs of abuse. Child Protective Services was contacted and the child was later released to a relative.
