WASHINGTON — Authorities say a D.C. police officer shot and wounded a man in southeast Washington.
Police say it happened Friday around 12:20 p.m. at 22nd Street and Alabama Avenue southeast after two patrol officers stopped the man and then got into a fight. Police say the man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police did not identify the man who was injured and Assistant D.C. Police Chief Alfred Durham says the reason for the stop was being investigated. Durham says one of the officers, a 23-year veteran, shot the man at least once. Durham declined to say whether the man who was shot was armed. The officer who fired has been put on administrative leave during the investigation.
The officers’ names were not released.
