ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland’s health exchange says more than 11,000 state residents have enrolled in private health plans.

Maryland Health Connection on Friday released the latest number of enrollments to be 11,715 through Dec. 21. That’s up from last week’s numbers, when the exchange reported that 7,435 had enrolled as of Dec. 14.

State officials say the troubled health exchange website is working better, and an information technology team continues to work on remaining problems.

The deadline for people to enroll in health care plans to get coverage Jan. 1 in Maryland is midnight Friday for two of the four medical carriers in the state’s health care exchange. They are CareFirst and United Healthcare.

Deadlines for the two others have been extended to midnight Tuesday. They are Evergreen Health Cooperative and Kaiser Permanente.
