Universities Raise More Than 100 Tons For Va. Food Banks

RICHMOND, Va. — The four schools involved in the Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic in Richmond have raised the equivalent of more than 104 tons of food for food banks throughout Virginia.

James Madison, Virginia Commonwealth, Virginia Tech and Hampton universities participated in the month-long drive.

VCU raised the most — about 50 tons of food — followed by Virginia Tech at 45 tons.

A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales to Saturday’s basketball doubleheader at the Richmond Coliseum also will be donated to the Federation of Virginia Food Banks.
