LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A Prince George’s County man has been charged with murder in a double shooting in Upper Marlboro that left one man dead.
Prince George’s County police say 20-year-old Ronte Muhyee was taken into custody after he allegedly shot two people in the 9600 block of Marlboro Pike on Saturday morning. Police say Muhyee shot 29-year-old Douglas Antonio Romero Argueta and another unidentified man after getting into an argument with a group of men working in the area.
Argueta, of Gaithersburg, died on the scene. The other man is in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.
Police say a witness followed Muhyee after he fled the scene and was able to tip officers to his location. Muhyee, of Oxon Hill, was taken into custody a short time later and police also found the weapon used in the shooting. He faces several charges related to the shooting.
The fatal shooting was the second in less than 24 hours in the same area of Upper Marlboro.
A teenager was shot and killed after a large house party early Saturday morning — less than five miles away from the fatal shooting on Marlboro Pike.
A Prince George’s County Police spokesperson says detectives do not believe the two shootings are related.
