WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Cris Collinsworth has been about as loud a proponent of the Redskins bringing Mike Shanahan back for a fifth season as there’s been, and even he may have finally resigned himself to the idea of a new head coach coming to Washington next season.
“I honestly have never seen anything like what’s going on in Washington right now,” Collinsworth said on Showtime’s Inside the NFL Wednesday night.
“It is a soap opera,” he said. “There are so many layers to what’s going on in Washington right now that you just wonder, could it ever possibly be fixed, and I guess they’re just going to blow it all up again, and start all over again. And who knows what they’re going to do, but this is as strange and into a football season as I’ve ever seen.”
As recently as last month Collinsworth took to the airwaves to plead with Dan Snyder not to fire Shanahan, predicting the conversation would inevitably ramp up heavily after the Redskins feel to 3-6 with a Thursday night loss to the Vikings in November.
The team has been in free-fall ever since.
The Redskins dropped their ensuing five games to bring them to the 3-11 record they currently possess, with a 6-game losing streak heading into the final two games of the season.
