Popular Virginia New Year’s Eve Celebration Cancelled

RICHMOND, Va. — A popular New Year’s Eve celebration in Richmond has been cancelled.

The Byrd Theatre Foundation says a New Year’s Eve ball won’t be raised atop the theater this year. The foundation attributed the decision to several concerns, including safety, vandalism, trespassing and litter.

Media outlets report that the foundation announced the decision on Wednesday.

The foundation says the ball raising drew more than 35,000 revelers in 2012.
