Frederick Deputy Suspended After Assault Charge
FREDERICK, Md. — The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy has been suspended following allegations he punched a man in the face in what he says was self-defense.
The agency announced the suspension Wednesday of 44-year-old Deputy First Class Kevin White. He is charged with second-degree assault in an incident early Sunday in downtown Hagerstown.
White is a 13-year-veteran of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. He lives in Hagerstown.
Twenty-four-year-old Travis Grant told police that White punched him in an alley outside a nightclub where they had been arguing.
White told police that he approached Grant in the alley because Grant was taunting him. He says Grant pushed him, so he “did what he had to do for self-defense.”
