WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – The Redskins are shutting down rookie tight end Jordan Reed for the remainder of the season, Fox Sports is reporting.
106.7 The Fan’s Grant Paulsen says a source within the organization was not aware Reed was being shut down.
This comes after Mike Shanahan shot down the idea of ending Reed’s season, in speaking with reporters earlier on Thursday, and one day after the head coach decided to end Robert Griffin III’s season.
Reed was electric and a welcomed surprise to an otherwise stagnant offense in his rookie campaign. He caught 45 passes for 499 yards and three touchdowns in eight games, enough to keep backup Fred Davis off the field for most of 2013.
Reed’s missed the last three games after sustaining a concussion in the Redskins’ Week 11 matchup against the Eagles.
