WASHINGTON — A former D.C. man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a bystander during a gunbattle outside an apartment complex.

Twenty-six-year-old Dontrace Blaine had been convicted of second-degree murder while armed in September. He was sentenced in D.C. Superior Court on Monday.

Blaine was convicted of killing 25-year-old Adegoke Adenikinju on Dec. 29, 2006. Prosecuors say Blaine was taking part in a gunbattle when Adenikinju was struck in the chest by a stray bullet as he to get out of his vehicle in hopes of seeking cover. He died at the scene.
