LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Two young boys, a 13-year-old and 12-year-old, have been arrested after police say they sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl in Woodbridge, Va.
They are charged with forcible sodomy and abduction with intent to defile.
Prince William County authorities tell WUSA-TV that several kids witnessed the sexual assault, which took place after school on Nov. 27.
The victim told investigators that she was held down and sexually assaulted in the backyard of her home, located in the 15100 block of Blackburn Road.
“She reported to us that she was sexually assaulted by two people who were known to her, two juveniles,” Officer Jonathon Perok, spokesman for the Prince William County Police Department, told WUSA. “During our investigation, we learned that they held her down, so that escalates it.”
Dr. Kacie Fisher, a clinical psychologist, says the young boys will not be tried as adults.
“Research does show that for most people who commit sexually violent acts, there has to be some level of exposure that normalized the behavior to them. It could be that they are victims of abuse themselves … or have been forced to watch some act of some violence,” Fisher told WUSA.
The two suspects are currently being held at a juvenile facility without bond. Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for late next month.
