Ousted Va. Delegate Seeks Senate Seat

LEESBURG, Va. — Virginia Del. Joe May hopes to continue his legislative career in the state Senate.

Media outlets report that the Loudoun County Republican, who lost his House re-election bid in a June primary, has announced he will seek the GOP nomination to succeed Democrat Mark Herring in the Senate.

The State Board of Elections has certified Herring as the winner of the attorney general’s race by a scant 165 votes. Republican Mark Obenshain has petitioned for a recount. If Herring’s lead holds up, a special election will be held for his seat.

Also seeking the Republican nomination to succeed Herring are 10th District GOP chairman John Whitbeck and conservative activist Ron Meyer.

A former assistant prosecutor, Jennifer Wexton, is the Democratic nominee.
