LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) – Montgomery County Police say they made 13 DUI arrests the night before Thanksgiving as part of the department’s holiday season enforcement campaign.
Thanksgiving eve usually brings an increase in alcohol-related calls, police say, and a special task force set up checkpoints and patrols Nov. 27 to combat underage drinking and impaired driving.
“Operation Turkey Chase” also resulted in 145 traffic citations issued, 131 traffic stops, six criminal arrests or citations issued and three provisional license violations, according to authorities.
Police say specialized enforcement efforts — including sobriety and phantom checkpoints, saturation patrols, laser stop teams, and plainclothes operations — will continue through Jan. 4, 2014.
