ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) — Niles Paul’s status for Sunday is in doubt after the Washington Redskins tight end missed a second day of practice with an unspecified illness.

Paul has been absent from Redskins Park this week and has not attended any meetings in the past two days. Head coach Mike Shanahan told reporters Thursday the Nebraska product had been advised by doctors to get some rest.

“You never know. He’s sick enough to miss two days, so he’s not feeling well,” Shanahan said of Paul’s chances of playing against the New York Giants. “We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Paul started at fullback in place of the injured Darrel Young Monday against the San Francisco 49ers.

A suspect hamstring has kept Young out of practice this week, but he is expected to participate in Friday’s session.
