ASHBURN, Va. (CBSDC) — Darrel Young was unable to practice Thursday as he continues to nurse an injured hamstring.
The Washington Redskins fullback did not play against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday after injuring the muscle during practice last week. Converted tight end Niles Paul started in his place.
Head coach Mike Shanahan says he thinks there’s a chance Young will be able to return against the New York Giants, but won’t have a better idea until Friday when the fullback resumes practicing.
“He tried (to test the muscle) a couple days ago and he was on the treadmill and got a pretty good workout in,” Shanahan said. “But as he pushed off, he felt a little twinge in there, which isn’t a good sign.”
Young told reporters that he “felt alright,” but couldn’t provide much of an update because he hasn’t practiced yet.
“Coach just said we’ll be smart about it,” said Young. “I guess being cautious is a way to say it.”
He’s hopeful that he’ll be able to play Sunday.
