Ex-MLB Pitcher Turned Brewer Creating Specialty Beer For Minor League Team
RICHMOND, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — A former major league pitcher turned brewer is teaming up to create the perfect beer for a minor league baseball team in Virginia.
The Richmond Flying Squirrels are partnering with the Center of the Universe Brewing Co., co-founded by ex-hurler Chris Ray, to craft a beer that will be available at The Diamond and throughout the region.
The Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants says fans are being asked to help name the amber lager through an online and text message contest. The finalists for the name of the beer are: Brush Back, Chin Music, Hanging Curve, Knee Buckler, and Perfect Game.
The name of the beer will be unveiled at an event on Dec. 17.
Ray played collegiately at nearby William and Mary before the Baltimore Orioles selected him in the third round of the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft.
He compiled an 18-19 record with 51 saves and 230 strikeouts during a six-year baseball career.
