LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Police in Montgomery County have identified the man who was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in Gaithersburg.

Authorities say Michael Kirby Alvarado, 25, was fatally gunned down by two suspects who remain at large.

Montgomery County Police say a Alvarado, of the unit block of Benji Court in Gaithersburg, was fatally shot just before 2:30 p.m. in the 400 block of North Summit Avenue, near Lakeforest Mall.

Authorities have issued only generic descriptions for the two black men believed responsible for the shooting. Authorities say the first man was wearing all black clothing, while the second was wearing a black-and-white striped shirt.

Gaithersburg Elementary School and Forest Oak Middle School were placed on lockdown, and Gaithersburg Middle School and Washington Grove Elementary School were instructed to shelter in place shortly after the shooting as police searched the nearby area for the suspects.

All schools were cleared to dismiss students just before 4:30 p.m., said Dana Tofig, spokesperson for Montgomery County Public Schools.

School officials said no one was hurt at either school.
