LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — The city council of Toronto voted Monday to strip 44-year-old Mayor Rob Ford of most of his powers as a lawmaker, CBS News reports.
Ford, who has made headlines recently for admitting to smoking crack during what he called one of his “drunken stupors,” ran toward and knocked down a female councilor during debate on the matter.
While the city council cannot fully remove Ford from office unless he is convicted of a crime, members voted to cut his office budget by more than 50 percent and allow his staff to join the deputy mayor.
Following the vote, Ford is essentially the city’s mayor in title only. His sole remaining responsibility is to represent the city at official functions, according to CBS News.
