WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - A fundraiser is being held in D.C. Saturday for a police officer shot in the line of duty while searching for the Navy Yard shooter.
Police say the event will be held from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Kelly’s Irish Times on F Street in Northwest.
Officer Scott Williams, a 23-year veteran of the force, was one of the first officers to respond to the scene, assembling a team that immediately made entry into building 197 to save the lives in jeopardy form the shooter.
The search team came under fire, and Williams was shot in both legs, causing his left femur bone to crack and his right femur to shatter. He continues to progress well through his recovery, but the fundraiser is being held in case any unforeseen medical expenses arise in the near future.
