ANNAPOLIS, Md. — An Annapolis man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of a visitor to his ex-girlfriend’s home.

Prosecutors say 26-year-old Charles Spriggs Jr. was convicted this week by an Anne Arundel County jury in the death of 30-year-old Howard Durley. He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole at sentencing Jan. 9.

Prosecutors say on Jan. 23, Spriggs and 20-year-old William Chase confronted Durley as he left the ex-girlfriend’s home in Annapolis.

Authorities say Spriggs told Chase, who had a gun, to shoot Durley. Prosecutors say Chase shot Durley in the chest, chased him and shot him again. Durley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chase pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in July. Prosecutors will seek a 55-year prison term at sentencing Dec. 3.
