CLINTON, Md. (CBSDC) — A woman led police on a chase in Prince George’s County on Tuesday night that ended when her vehicle plowed into a daycare facility.

Police said they were responding to a convenience story robbery on Fox Run Drive in Clinton at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when they spotted a silver Toyota speeding in the area. Officers said they tried to pull the car over several times but the driver continued to elude police.

Police said the driver lost control taking a turn in the 7900 block of Woodyard Road and crashed into the garage of a daycare. The car caught on fire and officers pulled the driver, identified as 44-year-old Stacey Porter of Southeast D.C., from the burning vehicle. Police were able to extinguish the fire, which caused extensive damage to the garage.

No one was inside the daycare at the time of the crash.

Porter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries to her face and ankle. Police have charged her with driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding police and related traffic offenses.
