Md. Man Charged in Attempted Rape of Store Employee
LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Police say a man was arrested Monday in the attempted rape of an employee of a Mr. Smoothie store in Rockville, Md.
31-year-old Yera Basnueva of Silver Spring entered the store located on Maryland Ave. around 9:30 a.m. and started a conversation with an employee.
After about 30 minutes, Montgomery County Police say Basnueva asked to use the restroom, but when he exited, his pants were down. He then grabbed the victim and pushed her onto the store counter where he attempted to sexually assault and punched the victim in her face.
The victim then punched and kicked Basnueva before he ran from the store.
The incident was caught on store surveillance, and police arrested Basnueva at his home Monday night.
Basnueva has been charged with attempted first-degree rape and second-degree assault. He is being held without bond.
