ALEXANDRIA, Va. (CBSDC/AP) — An official with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments was found shot to death in his Alexandria home, police say.
Alexandria Police confirmed Tuesday that 69-year-old Ronald Kirby was shot multiple times inside his home in the 200 block of Elm Street on Monday. Police say his death is being investigated as a homicide.
Police said a relative found Kirby unconscious in his home around 12:30 p.m. Monday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kirby served as director of the Department of Transportation Planning for the Council of Governments.
Council of Governments Executive Director Chuck Bean called Kirby one of the region’s leading experts on transportation planning. He says Kirby had guided the Transportation Planning Board’s work for more than 26 years.
