LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — A woman was struck and killed by a red line train at the Silver Spring Metro station on Sunday afternoon just before 2 p.m.
Metro spokeswoman Caroline Laurin says it appears to be an accident, but she says the circumstances of the incident are still unclear.
Officials say the woman was rescued and taken to a hospital Sunday but has since died. The Silver Spring station was temporarily closed.
Trains were single-tracking on the red line between Silver Spring and Forest Glen for part of the afternoon.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
