WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – A Jimmy Kimmel sketch is drawing attention from the White House.
On his October 16th broadcast, Kimmel hosted a roundtable of four children to discuss America’s debt crisis.
Six-year-old Braxton suggested killing everyone in China, which prompted giggles from the other three children and bemusement from the host.
But it’s no laughing matter for Chinese Americans and it has sparked international outrage from Beijing.
A petition on the White House website demanding an investigation has attracted over 100,000 signatures, the threshhold needed to require a response.
“The kids might not know anything better. However, Jimmy Kimmel and ABC’s management are adults. They had a choice not to air this racist program, which promotes racial hatred,” it reads.
Kimmel, ABC and its parent company Disney have issued an apology for the offensive sketch.
Disney has taken down clips of the sketch, but South China Morning Post has kept it alive on YouTube.
