WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – The Nationals are reportedly hearing offers for center fielder Denard Span, just one year after acquiring him through trade, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
Washington’s interest in shopping span could correspond with the team’s reported interest in free agent center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury, Heyman reports.
Span came to Washington in exchange for Alex Meyer, the Nationals’ top pitching prospect at the time of the trade last winter.
After struggling out of the gate offensively in 2013, Span rebounded in the last three months of the season, with a particularly strong September, in which he had 9 RBI and 9 stolen bases, while averaging .303 from the plate.
Span’s hitting line was .279/.327/.380 on the season, with 4 home runs, 47 RBI and 20 total stolen bases.
He also led the Majors with 11 triples.
