WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — A man was killed in an early morning shootout across the street from an elementary school in Southeast Washington, police say.
D.C. Police say the shootout broke out just after 3 a.m. Friday in the 5000 block of Bass Place SE, across the street from Nalle Elementary School.
When police arrived, they found an adult male — identified as 27-year-old Tyree Miller — lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police tell WNEW’s Karen Adams they believe multiple people exchanged gunfire while running down the street, striking several parked vehicles, in addition to Miller. Police said several cars will have to be towed after being littered with bullets.
Authorities said they don’t have a description of a suspect or suspects.
School officials said Nalle Elementary opened on time Friday, but they asked parents to drop their children off at the school’s C Street entrance due to the ongoing police investigation.
