RIDGELY, Md. — Maryland State Police say a Delaware man was killed after he fled during a traffic stop and crashed in a field in Caroline County.
It happened about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on Oakland Road in Ridgely. Police say a trooper saw a car driven by 30-year-old Cecil A. Barrett of Dover speeding and stopped the vehicle.
Authorities say as the trooper was at the car talking with the driver, Barrett suddenly sped off.
Troopers say less than a mile away, Barrett’s car failed to negotiate a curve, left the road, became airborne and rolled over at least four times in a field.
Barrett was pronounced dead at the scene.
