WASHINGTON — Prince George’s County Police say a man who allegedly drove toward an off-duty U.S. Park police officer has been charged with attempted second-degree murder.
County police say 20-year-old Rahman Elijah Mills of Hillcrest Heights was arrested Monday night at a Washington hospital, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound.
County police say the Park Police officer saw someone steal his mother’s car about 6:45 a.m. Monday in Temple Hills. Authorities say the officer got into his personal car, caught up with the suspect and ordered him to stop.
Police say the officer identified himself as a law enforcer and ordered the suspect out of the car. Officials say the suspect began driving toward the officer, who fired several shots at the car.
Mills is awaiting extradition to Maryland.
