Police Find Body in D.C. While Investigating Another Case

WASHINGTON — District of Columbia police are investigating a fatal shooting after officers discovered a gunshot victim while investigating another case.

Police say officers were canvassing an area in the 3500 block of Stanton Road in southeast Washington early Sunday morning on another investigation. That’s when they found a man who was unconscious and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim is identified as 25-year-old Jeffrey Jarrell Garnett of Washington.

Officers called D.C. Fire and EMS personnel, but Garnett was pronounced dead.

The Stanton Road area has been the location of several shootings in the past couple months.
