WASHINGTON — A former Clinton administration official is set to formally announce her campaign for District of Columbia mayor.
Reta Lewis began her campaign in July. It’s her first bid for elective office. Lewis is one of several candidates for the Democratic nomination, which historically decides the mayor’s race in the city. The primary is April 1.
When she launched her campaign, Lewis declined to offer specifics about her platform and did not criticize the city’s current leadership. Her campaign says she will outline her vision for the city at her formal announcement Saturday afternoon.
Mayor Vincent Gray has not said whether he plans to seek re-election. D.C. Councilmembers Muriel Bowser, Jack Evans and Tommy Wells are seeking the nomination, and Lewis trails all of them in fundraising.
