Police Investigating 2 Rockville Bank Robberies

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Two Rockville banks located less than half a mile away from each other were robbed Tuesday morning, according to Montgomery County Police.

The first bank, a SunTrust in the 1400 block of Rockville Pike, was robbed around 9:35 a.m. Police say a suspect approached a bank teller, displayed a handgun and demanded money as the employee was about to open the bank’s satellite drive-thru. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash from the drive-thru and fled in a vehicle.

The second bank, a Wells Fargo in the 100 block of Congressional Lane, was robbed shortly before 11 a.m. Police say two suspects approached a teller inside the bank and demanded money before one of the suspects jumped over the counter and the other suspect fired a gunshot into the bank’s ceiling. Both suspects then fled the bank without any money.

Police said no one was injured in the robberies.

Both robberies are under investigation but police don’t think the two robberies are related.

Police ask anyone with information about the robberies to call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers tip here.
