LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Three people have been arrested in connection with last week’s murder of a Prince George’s County hotel employee, authorities said.
Prince George’s County police said Monday morning that they arrested 20-year-old Deandre Weems, 18-year-old Rinaldo Savon Washington, and 23-year-old Kimfrey Williams for committing an armed robbery at the Clarion Hotel in Oxon Hill and fatally shooting 27-year-old Jesse Chavez outside the hotel on Oct. 21.
Police said Weems was the gunman, Williams was driving the car, and Washington served as the lookout.
An anonymous tipster called police and identified Weems, who was seen in a surveillance video taken from the hotel lobby jumping over the front desk and robbing the woman behind the counter. Police said they have recovered the gun used by Weems and the group’s getaway vehicle, which was torched.
An armed man entered the lobby of the Clarion Hotel — located in the 6400 block of Oxon Hill Road — around 10 p.m. Oct. 21, jumped over the front desk and robbed a woman working behind the counter, surveillance video shows.
Patrons and employees of the bar inside the hotel noticed the woman panicking and went to the lobby to investigate. Chavez, who was working in the kitchen area, chased the man outside the hotel and a struggled with the gunman. Police say Chavez, of Fort Washington, was shot during the struggle and the gunman then fled.
When officers arrived, they found Chavez suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
