WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — A security guard who witnessed last year’s attack against a U.S. diplomatic team is speaking publicly for the first time to CBS’ “60 Minutes.”
Correspondent Lara Logan spoke to a British citizen who had been hired to train Libyan guards.
He is using the name Morgan Jones to protect his identity.
Jones tells Logan he was alerted to the attack at the American mission in Bengazi by a phone call from one of the guards he was training.
That guard told Jones the attackers were saying “we’re here to kill Americans” as a way to keep them from fighting back.
He said the guards were beaten by the attackers.
Worried, Jones called a State Department agent who was pinned down inside the compound.
The agent told him attackers had overrun the facility.
Four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the attack.
Lara Logan’s full story runs on CBS’ “60 Minutes” this Sunday.
