WASHINGTON — A D.C. man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for setting a man on fire and killing him.
Shawn Lewis was sentenced Friday in the death of 38-year-old Douglas Farley earlier this year. Lewis pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in July.
According to government evidence, on June 28, Farley was on the back porch of the apartment building where Lewis lives. Prosecutors say Lewis went to the porch holding a lighted piece of newspaper and a container of ignitable liquid.
Authorities say Lewis threw the liquid on Farley and ignited it with the newspaper.
Farley died at the Washington Hospital Center on July 3.
Farley’s attorney did not immediately respond to a telephone message left Friday afternoon.
