WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., claims one GOP leader acted in a disrespectful manner toward President Barack Obama during a meeting over the government shutdown.

“Many Republicans searching for something to say in defense of the disastrous shutdown strategy will say President Obama just doesn’t try hard enough to communicate with Republicans,” Durbin posted on his Facebook page. “But in a ‘negotiation’ meeting with the president, one GOP House Leader told the president: ‘I cannot even stand to look at you right now.’”

Durbin did not say which leader it was that allegedly made that comment to the president.

He continued: “What are the chances of an honest conversation with someone who has just said something so disrespectful?”

The contentious government shutdown ended last week after 16 days when an 11th-hour bipartisan deal was reached to keep the government funded through Jan. 15 and allow the Treasury Department to continue to borrow through Feb. 7.
