Hotel Worker Killed During Robbery in Oxon Hill

OXON HILL, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — An employee was fatally shot during a robbery at Oxon Hill hotel Monday night, police say.

An armed man entered the lobby of the Clarion Hotel — located in the 6400 block of Oxon Hill Road — around 10 p.m., jumped over the front desk and robbed a woman working behind the counter, surveillance video shows. WNEW’s John Domen reports that the woman is pregnant.

Patrons and employees of a bar inside the hotel noticed the woman panicking and went to the lobby to investigate. One of the employees, who was working in the kitchen area, chased the man outside the hotel and a struggled with the gunman. Police say the employee was shot during the struggle and the gunman then fled.

The employee has been identified as 27-year-old Jesse Alexis Chavez of Fort Washington. When officers arrived, they found Chavez suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Police on Tuesday released surveillance video of the suspect showing him driving away in a dark-colored sedan.
