Man Wanted in 1989 Md. Murder Arrested in Georgia

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — Prince George’s County police say a man wanted in a 1989 slaying in Landover has been arrested in Georgia.

Police say 46-year-old Wayne Gilgeours was pulled over by Georgia State Police on Oct. 16 for a traffic violation. Officers said a check of Gilgeours’ fingerprints showed he was wanted in Maryland.

Prince George’s County police have a warrant for Gilgeours charging him with first-degree murder in the slaying of 22-year-old Philbert Jones.

Officers say on May 23, 1989, Jones was found suffering from a gunshot wound and later died. Authorities say the shooting was drug related.

Police say Gilgeours was identified as a suspect, but fled Maryland.

He is being held in Georgia, awaiting extradition.
