LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A 7-year-old girl is in critical condition at INOVA Fairfax Hospital after her mother hit her while backing an SUV out of a driveway in Potomac, Md. Sunday night, police say.
Wenhua Song, 41, of the 9900 block of Potomac Manors Drive, left her house to go out to the grocery store shortly after 9:15 p.m. . Her 7-year-old and 16-year-old daughters planned to stay home.
A person arriving to that home alerted police that he had just observed a person lying in the Song driveway and called 911.
When authorities arrived, they found the girl, Xitong Kong, unresponsive in the driveway.
They say Kong may have wanted to go with her mother Song, to the grocery store, but as her mother left the driveway her Mercedes-Benz GL450 struck her.
This incident is still under investigation.
The girl suffered life-threatening injuries and remains at the hospital as of Monday afternoon.
