LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — The joy of Sunday’s triumph over the Chicago Bears was short-lived for Washington Redskins offensive lineman Adam Gettis, who learned of the death of his aunt not long after the game concluded.

Renee Diaz had traveled by train from Chicago to the nation’s capital to see her nephew, a backup guard, play against her hometown team. She would never make it to the stadium.

Diaz passed of a massive heart attack as she was preparing to join other family members at FedEx Field. Gettis’ uncle learned of her death during the second quarter of the Redskins 45-41 defeat of the Bears.

Gettis remembers his aunt as a huge sports fan who would do anything for her family.

Gettis, a fifth round selection out of Iowa in 2012, has appeared in four games this season including Sunday’s win.
