Waiter Sentenced for Buying Art with Stolen Info

WASHINGTON — A waiter who prosecutors say used stolen credit card numbers to buy diamond jewelry and expensive works of art has been sentenced to more than three years in prison.

Forty-eight-year-old Kevin T. Washington of Gaithersburg, Md., was also ordered to pay $39,000 to businesses and banks that were defrauded at sentencing Thursday in federal court in the district.

Washington pleaded guilty in August to credit card fraud and other offenses.

According to his plea agreement, Washington stole credit card numbers while working as a waiter at a Georgetown restaurant. Prosecutors say he bought artwork totaling about $46,000 from an art gallery, including two Pablo Picasso etchings.

Authorities say Washington also bought jewelry, including diamond stud earrings, from a store in northwest.
