LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A man who kidnapped a child from an apartment building Thursday morning has been charged with kidnapping and burglary, authorities say.
The man who took the child allegedly crashed his car at the intersection of Rockville Pike and Tuckerman Lane in Bethesda, Md. before breaking into two apartments nearby, according to officials.
Montgomery County Police say he ran into an apartment on the third floor of the building and took the three-year-old boy. Shortly after, officers found the man in the stairway of a nearby parking garage.
The child was unharmed and later reunited with his family.
Investigators have determined that the man entered into a first floor apartment by breaking a rear window. When the apartment building’s fire alarm sounded, a woman on the third floor exited her apartment to investigate. A man then entered her apartment and took the child, police say.
The man has been identified as 27-year-old Shervin Hessamfar. Police say he is charged with kidnapping a child under 16 and two counts of burglary.
