LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A man going through a divorce allegedly shot himself and set his Maryland home on fire Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Frederick County police and fire were called to the man’s house in the 8800 block of Pete Wiles Road in Middletown just after 5 a.m. for reports of a shooting and a fire. When authorities arrived at the house, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound lying outside the burning home.

The man, who has not been identified, was flown to the hospital in unknown condition.

Authorities say the man had been going through a divorce, which was finalized Tuesday, and that they believe the gunshot was self-inflicted and the home was intentionally set on fire. Fire investigators say they found gasoline cans inside the home.

No one else was home at the time of the fire and authorities said the investigation into the shooting and fire are continuing.
