WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - A little more than a week ago, President Barack Obama weighed in on the issue regarding the Redskins’ highly-controversial team name – and whether or not it should be changed – bringing legitimacy to a debate that’s picked up a tremendous amount of steam over the last year.

Then Bob Costas happened — he offered his own two cents on the name at halftime of the Redskins’ 31-16 loss to the Cowboys during NBC’s Sunday Night Football broadcast.

Well, at this point you might as well ask everyone, because everyone seems to have an opinion … even Capitals’ defenseman John Carlson.

He was begrudgingly asked to give his opinion on the issue in an interview with 106.7 The Fan’s Lavar and Dukes on Tuesday, to which Carlson responded simply, “I think it’s stupid.”

“It’s stupid?” Chad Dukes asked.

“Yea, I think it’s stupid,” Carlson reaffirmed. “I think, you know, it didn’t matter when they created it and it shouldn’t matter now.”

“I think you’re gonna make a lot of people in Washington happy by saying that,” Dukes stated a fact.
