WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Presumably with regards to winning the Stanley Cup, forward Brooks Laich believes even with the tougher schedule, the Capitals are “closer than ever before.”

In his weekly appearance with the Junkies on 106.7 The Fan Thursday, Brooks was asked to give a reason for fans to be optimistic about the 2013-14 NHL season, as the Caps, already one loss in, prepare to entrench themselves in the new, tougher Metropolitan Division.

“You know what? I hate hearing people whine about the schedule getting tougher,” Brooks said.

“Yea, Brooks!” Cakes shouted. “Tell him! Tell EB!”

“Tell me why I’m wrong,” EB, who asked the question, said.

“Remember last year, I saw you guys, I was injured, and I saw you guys at the game and I said ‘Just wait til you see this team? We have a tough record right now but we’re going to go on like an eleven out of twelve-game winning streak’ or something like that, and we did it?” Laich said. “And, there are things that we see that you guys aren’t privileged to see. And the media too, and there’s things in video. We break down the video from every game, we break down video of upcoming games, we see what teams are like, their strengths and weaknesses, and every day we see ours. And we know a lot more than people, I don’t know, think, believe that we know.  But we have a solid, solid team. I really believe that we are right on the cusp, closer than ever before and I’ve been here ten, eleven years, and I believe we are closer than ever before.”

Round of applause.

“In Brooks I trust!” Cakes shouted again.

“I could care … What’s that?” Brooks said over the room of shouting voices. “I could care …”

“And that’s where I could care less about this new realignment,” Laich pushed onward.

“Can you say it the right way?” JP nitpicked, unsurprisingly. “You couldn’t care less.”

“He couldn’t care less,” EB said, rushing to the Flaim victim’s aid.

“He’s Canadian! You gotta give him a pass!” Cakes said.

“Alright, so if you’re confident, I’m confident buddy,” EB said.

“Yea, I like you buddy,” Laich said, returning buddy with buddy.

Please. Please. Please. If there’s nothing you do the rest of your day (like our government), listen to the clip of EB and Laich exchanging buddies. It’s so weird.
