WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — A woman is reportedly dead after leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit that began at the White House and ended with shots being fired on Capitol Hill.
The pursuit began when the woman attempted to ram a barricade at the president’s residence.
The following is a chronological account of the events as captured on Twitter.
“If you’ve ever heard guns going off, I don’t consider myself a ballistics expert, but it was clearly not a .22 which makes it sound like a ‘pop.’ This was more like booms. This was high-powered ammunition,” Congressman Matt Cartwright (D-PA) tells CNBC.
“You can look out the windows, which I’m not supposed to be doing, but there’s obviously a lot of activity. There are emergency vehicles and police are moving very quickly,” Congressman Peter King (R-NY) tells CNBC.
A suspect and a Capitol police officer are both being treated for injuries at Washington Hospital Center. There are reports of other injuries as well.
