CALVERTON, Md. (CBSDC/AP) – One man is dead following an early morning police-involved shooting near a dog park in Calverton.
Officers responded to an apartment complex in the 3800 block of Twinlakes Drive just before 2 a.m. Wednesday after a resident called 911 to report hearing a woman screaming for someone to get off of her, Prince George’s County Police say.
Authorities say when they arrived at the scene a woman was bleeding from her upper body and a man was attempting to flee the area.
After a brief foot chase, police say the man was approaching a fence. Authorities say the man refused to obey several commands from the officer. Police say the officer, fearing for his life, fired his weapon, striking the man. Authorities began doing chest compressions on the wounded man, but he died at the scene.
Police say no weapons have been recovered from the scene.
The officer, a seven-year veteran of the police department, was not injured and is on routine administrative leave.
It is unclear whether the man and women were acquainted.
